This week marks Speech Pathology Week, shining a light on the diverse ways people communicate and the importance of supporting those with communication needs. With an estimated 1.2 million Australians requiring communication support, this year’s theme, “Communicate Your Way,” highlights that communication is not just about speaking – it’s about finding a way that works for everyone.

Whether it’s through Auslan, Keyword Sign, assistive devices, gestures, communication books, or visuals, everyone deserves the opportunity to connect in their own unique way. As Speech Pathology Australia puts it: “Everyone communicates differently. Whether it’s spoken, signed, digital, or written, communication bridges gaps, fosters meaning and understanding, and strengthens relationships. It’s about making connections and expressing ourselves in unique ways.”

Thrive Medical speech pathologist Ellen is dedicated to helping members of our community communicate in ways that are most effective for them. This week is a reminder to celebrate communication in all its forms, ensuring everyone’s voice can be heard.
